Set of 2 Aarne cocktail glasses
Won gold medal at the 1954 Milan Triennale; part of permanent collection in New York’s MOMA
Clear blown glass in sleek but substantial shapes
Description
The absolute in modernist sophistication, Aarne glassware made its debut in 1948 and took martinis by storm throughout the 1950s. Hand-blown in Finland of clear, lead-free glass, the line showcases thick bases and straight sides that flare outward with clean, simple elegance. Each glass, whether tall and slender for beer or short and trumpet-shaped for bourbon, feels weighty and compelling in the hand. A pitcher and ice bucket augment the collection. Finnish designer Goran Hongell won a gold medal for Aarne in 1954 at the Milan Triennale, and today the collection claims a permanent home in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
